Located on 10 acres in Mystic, Connecticut, the Merocel Facility of Medtronic is fully equipped to deliver our PVA sponge in any form you need. We produce all of our PVA on-site, purchasing only raw chemical components and packaging materials.

Chemical Processing
In our 50,000-square-foot facility, a large chemical processing area encompasses the entire PVA sponge-making process: raw material mixing through reacting, multiple washing methods, chemical removal of residuals, drying, and a variety of post-process treatment steps that add a multitude of product enhancements and attributes. This area also includes a water purification system and a fully integrated wastewater treatment system.

With our extensive chemical processing experience and expertise, the Merocel facility can produce any combination of porosity, pore size, density, and other attributes to meet your performance requirements.

Manufacturing
In the manufacturing area, technicians convert and package the completed raw sponge into final products. These can be distributed sterile or non-sterile.

The Merocel facility follows lean manufacturing techniques, an improved production system that significantly reduces waste in our manufacturing process and increases value for our customers.
