About Merocel
Merocel Corporation was founded in 1974 to explore the potential of polyvinyl acetal polymer as a replacement for cellulose- and cotton-based products. With its advanced degree of polymer purification, Merocel PVA set the new industry standard in low particulates, extractable residues, chemical resistance, durability, and a distinctive open pore structure.

In 1994, Merocel Corporation merged with Xomed-Treace, a leading developer and manufacturer of ear, nose, and throat (ENT) medical products. A year later, Merocel Scientific Products Division was created to enhance the technology associated with the Merocel polymer. The company received ISO 9001 certification of its quality system and soon expanded again as it increasingly focused on supporting integrated circuit manufacturing.

Medtronic, the world leader in medical technology, acquired Xomed in 1999. Merocel Scientific Division was renamed Medtronic Merocel, dedicated to delivering ultra-pure PVA sponge for high technology industries.

Today, the Merocel business of Medtronic maintains certification to ISO 13485 Quality Management System and is well-positioned for the future, committed to research, scientific discovery, and advanced technology that will help us develop innovative new products to meet our customers' rapidly changing needs.

Over 30 years as a leader in PVA (polyvinyl alcohol) sponge technology.
